Juvéderm® Fillers
30 year-old female patient who received filler to her cheeks and chin as well as neurotoxin injection to her masseter muscles for facial and jawline contouring
Juvéderm® fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance present in the body that is responsible for maintaining the hydrated, plump appearance of the skin. HA bonds with water molecules to create volume in targeted areas of the face. The Juvéderm® family of fillers features a number of products specifically designed to address various aesthetic issues.
Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC: This popular filler product restores volume to gaunt cheeks, bringing about a more youthful appearance. It is an FDA-approved filler for correction of age-related volume loss in the midface and for chin augmentation with results shown to last up to 2 years. Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC is one of Dr. Ho’s fillers of choice for cheek augmentation, chin augmentation, facial contouring, liquid facelift, and jawline contouring. This filler is known for its unique Vycross technology that makes possible a highly crosslinked gel that is moldable immediately after injection and longer lasting compared to earlier generation fillers.
Juvéderm® Ultra XC: This filler offers several benefits. It can be administered to diminish the appearance of various moderate to severe facial wrinkles, including parentheses lines around the mouth (smile lines), marionette lines stretching from the corners of the mouth, and the nasolabial folds coming down from the sides of the nose. It can also volumize thin lips. Juvéderm® Ultra XC is an FDA-approved filler for lip augmentation and correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds with results shown to last up to 1 year. Dr. Tina Ho has extensive experience working with Juvéderm® Ultra XC, which is a popular filler of choice for plumping lips and softening the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
Juvéderm® Ultra XC Before and After
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC: This filler demonstrates a higher degree of cross-linking compared to Juvéderm® Ultra XC and therefore produces more robust results that have been demonstrated to last beyond 1 year. Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC is indicated for improving moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Dr. Tina Ho selectively uses this filler in those patients with fairly deep nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or chin creases, in patients who seek cheek or chin augmentation but desire lesser longevity of effect compared to that of Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC, and in patients who strive for bolder lip augmentation.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC Before and After
Juvéderm® Volbella™ XC: This filler provides lips with subtle attractive definition and volume. Juvéderm® Volbella™ XC is FDA-approved for enhancing lip fullness and correcting perioral lines with results demonstrated to last up to 1 year. Dr. Ho typically uses this lip augmentation filler for those patients who seek a more understated and refined enhancement of their lip volume or definition. This filler is known for its unique Vycross technology that makes possible a highly crosslinked gel that is moldable immediately after injection and longer lasting compared to earlier generation fillers.
Juvéderm® Volbella™ XC Before and After
Patient who received Volbella to the lips for additional lip augmentation. Results will vary by patient.
Juvéderm® Vollure™ XC: This filler product is FDA-approved for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds with results shown to last up to 18 months. In comparison to Juvéderm® Ultra XC and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC, Juvéderm® Vollure™ XC offers more subtle volume to treatment areas that may include the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and smile lines. Dr. Tina Ho commonly utilizes this Juvéderm® Vollure™ XC for subtle facial contouring, smooth lip augmentation, and improvement of mild facial wrinkles and folds. This filler is known for its unique Vycross technology that makes possible a highly crosslinked gel that is moldable immediately after injection and longer lasting compared to earlier generation fillers.
Juvéderm® Volux™: It is FDA-approved for adults over 18 years old with moderate to severe loss of jawline definition. This is a hyaluronic acid filler that is injected deeply into the facial tissues to enhance definition. It is indicated only for subcutaneous and supraperiosteal depth of injection. Results last up to 12-18 months.

Dr. Ho frequently injects Restylane® Lyft and uses it as a workhorse filler for facial contouring, jawline contouring, cheek augmentation, and chin augmentation.
Restylane® -L: Restylane-L contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic that numbs the treatment region. This makes the injection process more comfortable. Restylane® -L is indicated for the correction for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds including nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and smile lines as well as for lip augmentation. Dr. Ho uses Restylane®-L for treating these areas as well as a frequent filler of choice for improving tear trough deformity in eye rejuvenation.

Restylane® Contour: This filler is the newest product to join the Restylane® family and is FDA- approved for cheek augmentation and for shape or volume improvement in the midface. Restylane® Contour was designed with XpresHAn Technology™ to provide natural-appearing results with flexibility and maintained natural expression.
RHA® Fillers
The RHA® collection is composed of resilient hyaluronic acid fillers that are also the first and only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers for the treatment of dynamic facial wrinkles and folds. RHA® uses a gentle manufacturing process with few chemical modifications that help preserve the natural structure of the hyaluronic acid, allowing it to mimic the natural hyaluronic acid found in the skin.
RHA® 2: This hyaluronic acid filler is designed for injection into the mid-to-deep dermis for the correction of moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds including the nasolabial folds. Dr. Ho routinely uses this filler for the correction of tear trough deformity in eye rejuvenation, improvement of facial lines such as the nasolabial folds, smile lines, and marionette lines, and for lip augmentation.
RHA® 3: This hyaluronic acid is injected into the mid-to-deep dermis for the correction of moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds. Dr. Ho utilizes this product for softening facial lines including the nasolabial folds, smile lines, and marionette lines, and for lip augmentation.
RHA® 4: This hyaluronic acid is indicated for injection into the deep dermis to superficial subcutaneous tissue for the correction of moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds including the nasolabial folds. Dr. Ho often uses this filler for cheek augmentation, chin augmentation, and jawline contouring as well as for reduction of facial lines such as the nasolabial folds, smile lines, and marionette lines.
Belotero Balance®
Belotero Balance® is a hyaluronic acid filler that possesses a higher elasticity than other HA injectables, which aids in creating even distribution. It is used to address various facial wrinkle lines, including the nasolabial folds and parentheses lines. This filler product is approved for the correction of nasolabial folds with treatment results shown to last 6 months or longer. Dr. Ho frequently uses Belotero Balance® for correction of tear trough deformity in eye rejuvenation and improvement of finer, etched wrinkle lines of the face.
Belotero Balance® possesses a lower viscosity compared to the Juvederm® products, and is therefore much less likely to cause a Tyndall effect when treating delicate areas including very shallow wrinkles and the lower eyelid region. The Tyndall effect creates a slight bluish tint to the skin due to the filler’s proximity to the surface.
Belotero Balance® Before and After
Radiesse®
This dermal filler product is composed of CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel. The microspheres form a structure in the skin tissues to create new volume. While this occurs, the tissues produce new collagen and elastin protein at a higher rate.
Radiesse® can be used to restore volume in a number of areas of the face, including the cheeks, chin, jawline, and temples. It is also an excellent choice for improving wrinkles such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, parentheses lines, and perioral lip lines. This filler product is approved for treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines and for hand rejuvenation. Dr. Ho commonly injects Radiesse® for facial contouring, jawline contouring, cheek augmentation, and chin augmentation where volume and definition are needed.
The Dermal Filler Treatment Session
Dermal Filler Aftercare
Once your dermal filler injections have been performed, you will be free to return to your daily schedule. Aside from avoiding exercise and strenuous activity for 24 hours, there is no recovery time required. Many patients typically get these treatments done during their lunch breaks and then return to work.
A slight degree of redness, swelling, and bruising is normal and will fade shortly. To avoid exacerbating these issues, apply ice compresses and stay hydrated for the first 24 hours and do not drink alcohol or take blood-thinning medications for 24-48 hours after treatment. Furthermore, avoid heavy sun exposure and make sure to wear proper sunscreen.

FAQ’s
How long will dermal fillers last?
One of the main reasons that people choose dermal fillers is that they are both non-invasive and not permanent. The results of dermal fillers can last for as long as a few months to a few years, depending on the kind of filler you use, where it is injected, and your metabolism. On average, fillers last somewhere between 6 and 18 months. While it is impossible to say for certain how long face fillers will last due to the many variables, usually parts of the body that are more active, such as the mouth, will likely break down faster than areas that experience less movement, such as the cheeks.
When considering dermal fillers cost, make sure to keep in mind that it is not a one-and-done treatment. You should expect to maintain your desired appearance by getting injectables as needed based on how quickly it is broken down. Speak with your provider to learn which options are best for you and how long you should expect your results to last based on the specifics of your situation. At Tina Ho MD Facial Plastic Surgery, the cost of filler is $800 per syringe. We also offer filler packages that range from $1500 to $5500 depending on the number of syringes used.
What does a dermal filler do?
Dermal fillers are injectables placed under the skin to create a smoother and more youthful appearance. The injectable is most commonly made of a substance called hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body and helps keep the skin smooth and plump. As people age, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases, which leads to more wrinkles and sagging. Dermal fillers are a solution for repairing these issues.
Filler injection is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments. In less than a half hour, people will see their face and skin transform, as results are immediate and can last for several months. Many types of fillers may be placed in various parts of the face including:
- Cheeks
- Temples
- Lips
- Tear Troughs
- Chin
- Jawline
- Nasolabial Folds
- Marionette Lines
During the treatment, your provider will mark the areas to be injected and then gently inject those areas with filler. They will then massage the injection site to ensure the filler is evenly distributed throughout the target area, giving it a more natural look. Fortunately, each injection also contains a small amount of lidocaine, which helps reduce the pain and discomfort that may be felt during the treatment.
Following the procedure, it is not uncommon to have some minor bruising and swelling that will subside in a few days to a few weeks out.
Are dermal fillers better than Botox?
It is not a question about which one is better, but rather, which one is most effective for your needs. They both help to achieve a more youthful appearance. When it comes to considering which injectables are right for you, you must first understand the uses for each product. While both are used to treat wrinkles, they each have a different purpose. Botox paralyzes muscles, while dermal fillers add volume to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox is usually utilized for the following conditions:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
Dermal fillers are typically used to treat the following conditions:
- Depressed acne scars
- Thin lips
- Sunken cheeks
- Static wrinkles
- Deeper smile lines
- Small chin
- Ill-defined jawline
Typically, Botox is more affordable but does not last as long as dermal fillers. Your needs and goals will determine which option is better for you. It is common for people to choose both dermal fillers and Botox to address various facial concerns.
What is Juvederm filler used for?
One of the most popular hyaluronic acid filler brands, Juvederm, works to restore and correct facial aging signs. Specific areas it is used to address include marionette lines and smile lines. Juvederm fillers are also commonly used to plump lips and add volume to the cheeks. Juvederm offers a variety of products that vary based on what part of the face is being treated. This particular brand of product yields results for about one to two years.
What happens if you stop Juvederm filler?
Over time, Juvederm is broken down by your body, so you will have to continue getting periodic injections based on how quickly your body metabolizes it. Ending the use of Juvederm does not make your lines or wrinkles worse. If you stop using it, your face will return to how it was before. If you start it up again, you will still be able to get good results. Likewise, you should not have to get more filler than you did the first time unless you are trying to achieve a different look or have lost more facial volume with time that needs to be repleted.
